Interview on Musicnotez the online magazine
MuzicNotez Crew: First off, it’s an honor to be doing this interview with you Canary, thanks for taking the time to sit down with us. Question: What motivated you to start creating music? What age did you begin? Answer: I'm glad to be here with you. I started learning the piano  and entered the music department at the University of Idaho at Moscow when I was 31. Question: Who were your musical influences, idols, or bands growing up that have helped mold you into the musician you are today? ...

Mastering
It takes time to get a recording to finish, especially if your engineer has another job. We had to sort through all the pieces, there are many, to get the best take, to hook up various starts and stops of a tune and for me to listen and listen. I ALWAYS loath the recordings when I first hear them. I don't know why that is, but it's uncomfortable. I have to wait for a month before I can clearly hear what we've recorded. I'm still not happy with the recordings, people needed a conductor and several ...

The recording work began the concert
I hired half the Cape Cod Symphony to record some 15 pieces of mine, most under 5 minutes. It was one hell of a period, I was working round the clock to send each musician corrections to everything, it seemed. Some of it was computer idiocy, the rest was mine. Then there was this long month where I paced and twiddled my thumbs while the groups practiced. Next was the day we recorded at the Cultural Center of Cape Cod. Beautiful place, lousy sound and piano, but we didn't know, it just worked out that ... Kommentare 1

Time to Talk...or is that write..
Ah the sweet hurry up and wait of life...I remember that from my air Force days. Hurry up and wait. Took me eons of hours to prepare the musicians I'd gathers from the Cape Cod Symphony to rehears and record my chamber music. I figured, if they were symphony musicians and I know the symphony to be good, th4 music would come out good....right? Uhhhhhhh. Maybe some of it will be good. But I probably made every mistake known to music makers everywhere, except in my head. I think I should have been with ... Kommentare 1

Christmas time
ALL the presents are off. My kids say the're too old for presents!! And then they relish them. This year they cost more  to mail them than it cost for the things inside. The Northern Plains flute... is a bust. I was so busy copying phrases (licks in jazz talk)I wound up with a bunch of phrases. So was embaressed when the fellow who actually plays that flute turned it down. Gee, maybe I should run all my work past someone before I send it off. Then I have a small, three movement duo ...

It's nearly December
I'm wrapping present now in order to get them in the mail. If one doesn't do it early, your gift will arrive on Valentines Day. Musically, I'm working on a Shakahachi flute and poem piece. Since I wrote one for Northern Plains Indian flute and the Shakahachi fellow freaked, I'm working to get it right. It's very hard to notate the Shakahachi  using Finale. Way too subtle and fast. I was told the piece must be slow...yes to  accommodate  all the really fast things that happen to a ... Kommentare 2

archives full
I am so pleased to have corrected and bound all my scores and put them in a Archive for women composers/musicians in Italy and an archive I have at the Wellfleet Library. I have my own ISBN number! Recently I've put several more compositions here in musicaneo. I am pleased to note that my work is being downloaded steadily. I have one solo work and just about to put in another one for viola.
